About Phyllis Parker-Bertun

Phyllis began teaching yoga in 2004.  Her early yoga teaching focused on a power yoga style class, she studied Baron Baptiste, Rodney Yee.  Her first Yoga Certification came from SCW, the trainer was Kripalu and Iyengar trained. She met her passion in a workshop with Diane Long whose linage extended from Indra Devi and Vonda Scaravelli. Which matched her kinesiology and mechanical philosophy. Coming into a posture, find the correct alignment, being aware of breath, using the core for balance, finding stability.

Having studied the meditative process she creates guided meditations, with visual imagery leading the student into Samadhi.  Following along this path she took a Yin yoga workshop 2010 and was a natural.

She began teaching chair yoga with seniors and found that many felt they could do more "while they don't just sit in their chair", exclaimed one student.  Having used the stability ball throughout her career she began developing a flow with the ball that would provide the support but challenge they needed.

Phyllis wrote a manual and submitted it for copyright, copyright was granted on context of the program. The manual provides all the basics you need to start your own program.  There are even challenges for those of that mind set. The practice begins seated on the ball doing asanas you would do in chair, then progress to standing using chair pose.  In standing forward folds and down dog. To part 3 kneeling transition to final part on the mat and ending with relaxation and meditation. This is an excellent program for Not just seniors! I have had post injury, non yogi population, pregnant.  Those interested in yoga but fearful of a class that is too difficult or intimidating.  This eases them into it and the can learn the asana and  names.

Waiting for many years before she took the 300 hour training, "I was looking for something more in depth, and not finding it in one place" I have found much of the work and now am putting together Yoga Teacher Training Manual for 200 RYT. I enrolled in Ayurveda Councilor school with Naryana Ayurveda recomended by NAMA (National Ayurvedic Medical Association) completing 600 hours Sept 2022 with certification as Ayurvedic councilor
