About Karen Moratz

With 28 years’ experience as the Indianapolis Symphony’s Principal Flutist, Karen Moratz is well-acquainted with the benefits of linking breath, movement and body dynamics. She likens her work as a professional musician to that of a professional athlete and so has embraced yoga as a means of bringing mind, body, spirit and music together in harmony and at the center of her life's journey. She combines breathing techniques, body alignment, and the Alexander Technique with her music instruction as well as her yoga classes, confirming for herself – and for her students – that the body itself is our primary instrument.  Karen holds a 200 hour certification from Cityoga and is registered with the Yoga Alliance (E-RYT200, YACEP). She teaches at The Yoga Studio in Indianapolis, as well as both flute lessons and yoga classes at Butler University. She has also led the popular “Yoga with the Musicians” series at the Indianapolis Symphony’s Hilbert Circle Theatre.
