My yoga journey began in 2008 when I found out that my college dorm offered free yoga classes -- after the first class, I was hooked. I loved the way my body felt after doing yoga. Even to this day, eight years later, I still love how I can always come to my mat and melt away the world for an hour or two. Yoga helped me concentrate better in school and manage the stress of my job. On my 22nd birthday, August 29th, 2011, my life took a life transformational turn when I dragged my sister Katie, with me to Italy for an intensive 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training. After a month of waking up at 6am for the Ashtanga primary series and learning that yoga was much more than just asana, I became a yoga teacher. My life was absolutely transformed, and I decided I wanted everyone to feel the way I felt when I practiced yoga.
I have taught in many, many places, including Michigan, Hawaii, Oklahoma, Boise, Missouri, Virginia, and Washington DC. I have taught yoga and meditation at festivals, including Roots and Bliss and Earth Day. I joined in on the fun in Boise’s Yoga Awareness Week teaching classes. In 2013, I settled into Joplin, a small town in southwest Missouri. Upon finding, to my disappointment, that Joplin didn't have even one dedicated yoga studio, I decided to open up my own -- and despite the fact that I was seven months pregnant, Treehouse Yoga was born.
I could fill a book with the lessons I learned, experiences I had, and discoveries I made while owning a yoga studio. The love I received from the Joplin community made my heart melt. It felt good to be able to help people who had never experienced yoga before. I helped facilitate the 4-States Yoga awareness week, where 15 teachers taught throughout Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri, reaching hundreds of people. I co-facilitated three different 200 Hour teacher trainings in Joplin, MO -- the first group graduating in April, 2015, the second in June and the third in March 2016. I’m proud to be able to say that today, the yoga teachers I trained are continuing to spread the joy of yoga through the Midwest.
Prenatal Yoga is kinda my jam right now. I recently took an 85-Hour Prenatal Training, studying under Mindy Goodmen in Boise and April Puciata in Washington D.C. Since then, I have been having fun making prenatal yoga videos for my YouTube channel (Treehouse Yogi). Pregnancy and the birth experience is sacred and exciting to me, and I love continuing to learn about it!
Besides yoga, I love hanging out with my family, my daughter, Roslyn, son, Sage and my amazing husband, Joshua. In addition to hiking, hooping, cooking, crafting, and (my very favorite) traveling! I am also learning to play the ukulele.
