Nancy believes that great teaching is grounded in having a strong sadhana (practice) and having ongoing respect for our bodies, and how they are constantly changing with time. She uses her daily practice as a learning laboratory and only teaches what she knows and can understand in her own body. The gift and the art of teaching for Nancy come across as she articulates this to others with healthy, integrated movement patterns that work to help students create optimal alignment in their own bodies.
Nancy’s primary motivation in teaching yoga is to give back. She believes that self-love and learning how to trust yourself is everything in yoga and in life. Without this as a foundation, the risk of relying on external sources becomes addictive. And, when that outside source is no longer available or dries up, it’s too easy to get pulled downward in an Alice-in-Wonderland way. Yoga is about learning to open to our innate, internal upward spiral - one that is inextricably connected to the Divine, is bountiful, and constant. Providing this kind of internal attention and self-care has everything to do with how we extend that to others and the world: We must learn to love and honor ourselves first.
Nancy’s class pacing is slow, steady, and mindful. She skillfully weaves alignment-based, stair-stepped instruction with breath and an emphasis on graceful and seamless transitions. With Nancy, you’ll get a full-spectrum practice and be nudged toward your growth edge creating a healthy challenge you get to calibrate. Nancy creates a learning environment that inspires and is welcoming and supportive. You’ll leave her classes uplifted, and grounded.
