I received my M.S. in O.T. in 1984, became sensory-integration (SIPT) certified in 1995, and began integrating yoga into some of my OT sessions with adolescents and young adults in the mid-1990s when they outgrew traditional SI treatments. After witnessing the healing power of yoga for many of my clients, I became a registered yoga instructor in 2005. Soon after, I learned about the sensory symptoms of combat veterans, so conducted a pilot study. This led to my role as co-author and Associate Investigator of the highly successful Iraq Yoga Study (Stoller et al., Jan/Feb. 2012 AJOT), which incorporated sensory-based OT practices into the yoga protocol. Since 2008, I have co-developed and co-presented workshops for yoga instructors and health professionals on the use of yoga as a healing modality for combat stress and PTSD, which I taught both independently and as a faculty member of two pioneering veteran yoga organizations- Yoga Warriors (2008-2011) and Warriors at Ease (2011-2016). In 2016, I graduated from the 800-hr Professional Integrative Yoga Therapy Program. In 2017 I became an IAYT-certified yoga therapist and also founded the Sensory-Enhanced Yoga® Institute (SEYI), which trains yoga instructors, yoga therapists, licensed health professionals, and educators in the evidence-based practices of Sensory-Enhanced Yoga® and also directly serves traumatized and highly stressed populations through outreach efforts, program development and consultation, and research.
