When Beth met yoga in 1996, the attraction was palpable. They had an on and off relationship for about 9 years, until she finished her Masters in Social Work, and took a job teaching English in her local high school (that made sense at the time…). Once in the classroom, Beth recognized how dearly her students could use some yoga, and she enrolled in the highly esteemed Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training at Wake Up Yoga in Philadelphia. It was there, under the tutelage of Corina Benner and Jill Manning, that she gained exposure to the philosophy behind the asana. She hasn't been the same since.
The plan was to sub a little, maybe teach one class. But within a year and a half, she had opened Yogawood, a community-based yoga and wellness studio in Collingswood, NJ. One and a half years later, she graduated her first of many Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training classes. She dove deep, studying yoga philosophy and Reiki and leading kirtans. When she met Jivamukti Yoga founders Sharon Gannon and David Life, she knew she was home.
Now a certified Jivamukti Yoga Teacher and E-RYT 500, Beth weaves philosophy, meditation, devotion, humor, and incredible music into her well-sequenced asana classes. She teaches individuals and private classes and sometimes leads indie-rock chant events with her group Velvet Kirtan. She is on faculty with The Thread Yoga Collective, an online community of teachers from different yoga traditions, and leads domestic and international yoga retreats.
