Dr. Matthew Wappett has practiced yoga for over 25 years including 5 years in an Iyengar intensive studio. He is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with a Registered Yoga School (RYS). He has also completed training in Mind/Body Medicine through Harvard Medical School and teaches Mind/Body Stress Reduction (MBSR), breathwork, and laughter yoga. He teaches hatha, vinyasa, and restorative yoga and incorporates elements of MBSR and breathwork in most of his classes.
Dr. Matthew Wappett is also a researcher, writer, and an educator in leadership, stress management, and inclusion at Utah State University. His approach to “compassionate leadership” has been implemented in many organizations and classrooms, and is informed by his background in Disability Studies and as a whitewater guide. Dr. Wappett’s work is also focused on the effects of laughter as a stress management technique and a tool to create inclusion.
Dr. Wappett’s teaching and research on the effects of stress on learning and behavior helps individuals and organizations understand how to become more resilient and inclusive. Dr. Wappett is committed to providing educators, social workers, and other human service professionals with the tools they need to manage their stress, and the skills they need to become more resilient. He is committed to creating inclusive environments that foster a sense of purpose and belonging.
