Being a yoga teacher is more than a career for me -- calling might be a better word. I came to yoga to heal in the body and in the mind. While healing has happened and is happening, I found much more. Yoga has empowered me in many ways, but primarily by making me more aware. I owe much of the credit of this journey to my teachers Saraswathi Vasudevan and Shakuntala Devulapally from YogaVahini.
When I teach yoga, it is firstly to share what I have found in yoga. It is also because I am in awe of our bodies, our breaths, our existences, and how yoga brings them all together.
I teach in the tradition of Shri Thirumalai Krishnamacharya and am grateful to do so. I design my classes based on the students' needs. This is central to the concept of Viniyoga, which is one of the pillars of this tradition.
I instruct asana and pranayama classes to individuals and groups, online and in-person.
I help my students improve their physical and emotional health and find a quiet space within from which they can negotiate the world.
So far, I have taught children (in groups) and adults (individually and in groups). I have also done two community projects -- one with teenagers and the other with women. Both groups belonged to the underprivileged class.
I live on a farm in Karnataka, India, with my husband, two daughters, and two pups.
