Getting to witness the positive effects of yoga on people's lives is one of the things that makes me happy.
In 2017, I apprenticed under Alek Trail to teach at Barefoot Movement in Oakland, California. I completed 500 hours of training at Bhakti Yogshala in Rishikesh, India under Tamlyn Cohen as well as 100 hours Yoga Nidra under Deepa Negi Mira and 100 hours Yin Yoga under Pawan Maheshwari. Currently, I study Rocket Yoga with Amber Jean Espelage.. I also train and teach the Afro-Brazilian martial art of capoeira under the supervision of grand masters Acordeon and Suelly.
I am presently on the Mindfulness faculty at Northeastern University and sharing the teaching of yoga with young people has been one of the most rewarding things I've ever done! Busy with higher ed teaching, I only have one public-facing studio class, and that's at Left Coast Power Yoga, where i also serve on the YTT team.
"Tako" is the Japanese word for Octopus. By an odd coincidental twist of fate, my nickname in capoeira is Polvo... the Portuguese word for Octopus! This animal represents me in both yoga and capoeira. The Polvo has eight limbs, just like yoga!
My teaching style is playful, attentive, exploratory, and collaborative. I encourage reflection, introspection, and critical thinking, as I believe you are ultimately your truest teacher. My goal is to be but a temporary guide on students' journeys.
