As a veteran educator (with 26 years experience teaching at the secondary school level and institutions of higher education), I value lifelong learning, service to the community and providing instructional experiences that are meaningful and accessible to all.
For me, yoga is not only a means of engaging in a healthy, physical activity, it is a means of better understanding and accepting the WHOLE self (mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually) through awareness of and attention to the mind, body and soul.
As an educator, I am naturally drawn to educating others, as I continue to immerse myself in learning about all of the benefits that yoga has to offer, and I am committed to continuing to develop my skillset and proficiency in employing the tools of yoga as a healing practice, by engaging in additional areas of certification beyond the physical practice, and by first, embodying these practices as a student.
As a supplement to my initial yoga teaching certification, I have engaged in such trainings as Trauma Informed Yoga Therapy, as well certification programs that are focused on styles such as Restorative Yoga and Yin Yoga.
In my classes, I facilitate the practice of conscious awareness and mindful breathing as we travel through our senses to assess the state of our bodies and minds. I use an abundance of cues to provide enough options for students to learn about themselves and their individual needs, and to encourage the autonomy to challenge oneself or move with ease towards the intended destination for each individual session.
