My name is Shayanara, you may call me Shay. I'm a trained trauma-informed yoga, meditation, movement, care and somatic trauma therapy facilitator.
I was born and raised in a small island off the coast of the Bay of Bengal called, Sri Lanka. Yoga came to my life at a tumultuous time of trauma and deep depression during which I turned my gaze inward by necessity and was in search of finding another way to do things, to imagine, to do the work for a better world from the heart and with the lens of nature. So I dove heart first. I started digging deep into a yogic way of living through the Updog Yoga teacher training which set roots and deepened my understanding of yogic practices.
After having lived the experience of healing through Yoga, I whole heartedly believe Yoga is for everyone. I'm deeply dedicated to creating spaces that are accessible, trauma-sensitive, invitational, inclusive to all and most of all very human and heart centered. I believe Yoga is a discipline of the heart and practices of breath, movement and meditation have profound potential for both personal and interpersonal healing. I'm so incredibly humbled by the opportunities to hold space for others to explore such practices in their own lives. Thank you for being here!
