I have been practicing yoga steadily for the past decade and have found that no matter what might be happening in my own life or the outside world, I can always find peace on my mat. It was this realization that cemented my decision to begin teacher training. I dove in to the 200 hour yoga teacher training program at Inner Power Yoga with the hope of finding my way along a new path. After 10 years as a stay-at-home mom I was ready to broaden my horizon once again. What I found was a whole new outlook on the world around me and my place in it. The process was full of challenge and introspection and truly changed me from the inside out. Initially, I held it close to my heart, soaking in all that I had learned. Over time though, it became clear to me the importance of sharing what I have learned and why I love it. I want to help other people discover the benefits of the practice like I have. In my classes I love blending breathwork (pranayama) and physical postures (asana) to help balance and connect the body, mind and spirit. Conscious breathing can have a powerful effect on the body. Slowing the breath pace, calms the heart rate, which relaxes the brain state. It is all connected. I find so much joy in helping my students discover that.
Alan Watts wrote, “To spread joy, you have to have it. To impart delight, you have to be more or less delightful. And to be delightful is not some factor of trying to make yourself look delightful, it is to do things that are delightful to you. You thereby become delightful to others.” This resonates with me because I think it perfectly captures the exchange of energy I hope to cultivate in each of my classes.
