I love making yoga and meditation accessible for people of all ages, backgrounds, beliefs, and in bodies of all shapes, sizes, and abilities. I embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion. I specialize in yoga for beginners, gentle and restorative yoga, and trauma-informed (trauma sensitive) yoga.
For me, poses (asanas) are only one aspect of yoga practice. The intention of yoga is to quiet the mind so that we can accept and reconnect with ourselves - and maybe even find a moment of peace in this busy, chaotic world. My intention when teaching is to create an accepting, non-judgmental space and to offer options for individuals so they can create an experience that works best for them.
When I was introduced to yoga 20 years ago it felt like home for my body and my mind. However, earlier on in my practice I discovered there was a lack of teachers who could offer trauma-informed practice and instruction for people in larger bodies. In my quest to learn for myself, I eventually decided to become a yoga teacher. In 2018, I received my 200-hour yoga teacher certification from Lara Ward, E-500 RYT of Lotus Gardens Yoga School. I have since received specialized training and certifications in trauma-informed yoga, restorative yoga, chair yoga, Yoga4Classrooms, and am a certified Yoga for All teacher.
In addition to my yoga training, I have earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Master of Social Work, and am a practicing Licensed Master Social Worker. I have also received training or certifications in Psychological First Aid, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindful Schools, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
Aligned with my belief in Ahimsa, the yoga concept of practicing non-violence, I have practiced a vegan lifestyle for 20 years.
