Gail Lee Abrams is a retired Professor of Dance and Movement Studies who taught at Scripps College in Claremont, California from 1986 - 2015. She spent many years as a professional dancer and freelance choreographer on both the east and west coasts. Her love of movement and her passion for deepening the mindbody connection led her to dive into yoga intensively in 2010, and in 2013 she received her RYT-200 Integrative Yoga Teacher Certification through Aloha Yoga Shala in Hawaii. She then developed a semester-long college course as well as workshops in Somatics of Yoga, which integrate her background in Laban Movement Analysis, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Ideokinesis, Hanna Somatics, and other mindbody disciplines.
Gail currently teaches group classes and private sessions at Arbor Life Spa in Redlands, CA, at The Zen Den in Highland, CA, and on Zoom. In addition to her RYT-200 and degrees in Graphic Design (BA) and Dance (MFA), Gail holds certifications Acupressure, Reiki, and Laban Movement Analysis/Bartenieff Fundamentals. Gail has given workshops and presentations in Somatics of Yoga, BrainDance Yoga, Creative Dance, Mind/Body Awareness and Stress Reduction at numerous conferences, colleges, and private dance and yoga studios, and has published articles on a variety of topics. Her goal in teaching yoga is to offer students new ways to think about and experience the body, so that their yoga practice as well as their daily movement can be efficient, pleasurable, recuperative, and healthy for the body/mind/spirit.
