Lauren started her journey into yoga in high school, when her aunt gave her a mat and a yoga video, thinking it would compliment her background in dance and movement. She dabbled with a home practice through the years, but nothing ever really stuck. Eventually, Lauren was drawn into a studio to practice while looking for something more, something different. From that moment, she was all in.
As her practice developed, Lauren felt a strong calling to share her love of yoga with others. She completed her 200 hour training under J Miles in Richmond, Virginia in 2014, and completed her Rocket Vinyasa teacher training in February 2015 with Steve Pyka and Rene Henley at Asta Yoga in San Francisco. She completed her 300 hour training at Asheville Yoga Center in Asheville, North Carolina. She is a certified Meridian Yoga Technique practitioner, having completed both Meridian Yoga levels 1 and 2 certifications under Rose Erin Vaughan and the Science of Self Yoga training team. Lauren’s main goals for her students are for them to be able to come practice without judgement or expectation, to reconnect, and have fun (probably including a couple of laughs) while practicing.
In the summer of 2015, Lauren and her close friend and now business partner, Adrian McCavitt, decided they wanted to create a space where all are welcomed like family, and where everyone in the community can come to connect with themselves and with others (community members now self-titled as "dojomies"). A space popped up in the up-and-coming Scott's Addition neighborhood of Richmond, VA, and they took the leap.... and in October 2015, The Yoga Dojo was born - a sanctuary dedicated to the practice of yoga and movement exploration, friendship and community. In 2022, they expanded to a larger space a few miles west, also adding their adjacent sibling space, Theta Wellness. Theta is a home for holistic healing and self care where you can experience massage, body treatments, acupuncture, acupressure, sauna and a relaxing tea lounge. Lauren and Adrian co-lead 200 and 300-hour teacher trainings, as well as retreats around the world.
When she isn’t on her mat, Lauren enjoys getting out and seeing the world, and spending time with her husband, family, friends, and rescue pups, Howdy and Frankie.
