Swami Vidyananda began practicing Yoga in 1969. She has been teaching Integral Yoga and training Yoga Teachers since 1973. She became a Swami (monk) in 1983. She has taught and trained Yoga teachers throughout the US and Canada, as well as in Australia, Europe, and India. For many years she traveled with Swami Satchidananda, serving as his translator into French.
Vidyananda presently lives in Satchidananda Ashram, Yogaville, Virginia where she teaches all branches of Integral Yoga, including Meditation, Hatha, Jnana and Raja Yoga. She continues to travel widely, teaching Yoga and the Emotions, Stress Management, and Yoga for Mid-life Meaning. She has a gift for adapting classical Yoga for the modern mind with warmth and humor.
Vidyananda appeared on national TV speaking on Yoga Stress Management. She has taught Yoga in many diverse programs, including Smith Center Cancer Retreats, and Yoga for persons with eating disorders. She trained as a hospital chaplain at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
