Heather completed her 200-hour teacher training with Sean and Karen Conley of Amazing Yoga in Pittsburgh, PA. She completed further training with Liz Heffernan and Soma Yoga Institute for certification at the 500-hour level. She moved to Ithaca, NY after completing her PhD in Engineering and took a job as an energy efficiency consultant. When her full-time job left her with too much time on her hands, she opened the first Mighty Yoga Studio in Ithaca to expand the practice of yoga in the community. Eight years, three kids and two studios later, she wonders where all that free time went!
We asked Heather
Why do you practice yoga?
I started a regular yoga practice as a way to stay in shape after retiring from my time as an elite rower. It soon evolved from exercise into a way to relieve stress during the most intense parts of grad school. These days it helps to ground me when I’m overwhelmed with everything going on in my world – running three yoga studios, and being a mother of two energy-filled boys and a baby girl.
What fuels you?
Snuggling and having fascinating conversations with my kids – you never know what’s going to come up, spending time outside, and smoothies.
