Sonia Sumar
is a masterful and compassionate teacher for over 40 years and internationally renowned for 35. Educated by masters worldwide, she started following Integral Yoga teachings after meeting her Guru Sri Swami
Satchidananda in 1989.
Sonia Sumar began teaching Yoga for children with special needs after her second daughter Roberta was born with Down Syndrome in 1972. Sonia noticed many positive changes in Roberta from using Yoga techniques , so in 1975 she became a Certified Yoga Teacher and began her journey into the Yoga field. In 1980, she founded the Yoga Center, "Nucleo Cultural Sivananda, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil" (the Sivananda Cultural Center). Since then her Yoga for the Special Child work had spread much and she she receives invitations to give conferences and workshops throughout Brazil and other countries in South America and Europe.
Sonia holds a Bachelor's Degree in Education and has taught at elementary school level. She has conducted workshops and addressed special education Programs and symposia in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, and India.
Her book Yoga for the Special Child has been published in English, Portuguese, and Chinese. Dutch and Spanish translations will soon be available. The EBook version is available in English.
