Michigan, We Need Your Help!
Last Updated: December 9, 2016
As you may know, Yoga Alliance® has been working in states across the country to make sure that yoga teacher training programs (YTTs) are protected from unfair and unnecessary government regulation. In Michigan, we have heard from many members of the yoga community who are concerned about burdensome regulation of YTTs by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). We share your concerns and have been working hard on your behalf to protect the rights of Michigan YTTs to operate without this unnecessary intrusion.
We are pleased to announce that Senator Tonya Schuitmaker introduced bill SB 818 in the Michigan Senate this week! This legislation will prevent state regulators from imposing burdensome requirements – meant for private postsecondary schools – on YTTs by exempting yoga instruction and/or yoga teacher training from LARA’s regulations. We thank Senator Schuitmaker for her support of the Michigan yoga community and look forward to the consideration of this important legislation in the coming weeks.
As our efforts continue, we will need your help to make sure that Michigan’s legislators understand that this issue is important to you. If you oppose the unnecessary and burdensome regulation of YTTs in Michigan, please:
