HB 246 Advances, Still Needs Your Attention

Last Updated: May 11, 2021

Dear Alabama Yoga Alliance Community,

You may have heard or read that on Thursday, May 6, Alabama HB 246, the bill that will reverse a 28-year ban and allow yoga instruction to be shared with public school students as an elective activity, was passed in the State Senate! Thank you to everyone who sent emails to their senators and to Chairman Waggoner to move it out of the Rules Committee and onto the Senate floor.

While Senate approval brings us one step closer to the bill becoming law, the Alabama House of Representatives must pass the bill again, since the Senate amended it. We expect the House to take up the Senate-passed version of the bill on May 17, though the legislative process remains dynamic.

We have created a customizeable email for you to send to your state representative encouraging them to approve and pass the amended bill.

Once again, please ask your fellow Alabamians—friends, family, and fellow yoga practitioners—to send an email as well.

It is always our goal to support you in increasing the accessibility to the practice we know is beneficial to all. We will keep you updated on our efforts and thank you for all you do for your community. If you have, any questions, further input, or information regarding this issue, please share it with us at yaadvocacy@yogaalliance.org.
